Mohammad Waseem-led UAE beat New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I in Dubai and have now leveled the three-match series 1-1.
Skipper Waseem played a captain's knock and guided his team to a historic win and kept his nation alive in the series.
Waseem started cautiously as his opening partner Aryansh Sharma lost his wicket in the first over to Tim Southee.
UAE were 44-2 by the end of the powerplay as Vriitya Aravind played a slow inning, scoring 25 off 21.
However, Waseem went berserk and completed his fifty in just 27 balls with four fours and three sixes after scoring 16 off 13 at the start.
After the skipper fell prey to Mitchell Santner, Asif Khan took charge of the innings and played a destructive knock of 48 off 29 helping his team complete the target of 143 runs.
Earlier in the first innings, New Zealand lost an early wicket just on the last ball of the third over as Tim Seifert was bowled by Mohammad Jawad Ullah for just seven runs.
The Kiwis kept on losing the wickets but Mark Chapman's 46-ball 63 helped his team to put a decent total on the scoreboard as seven of their batters failed to score in double digits.
After Chapman, Jimmy Neesham and Chad Bowes scored 21 runs each.
UAE's Aayan Afzal Khan picked three important wickets for just 20 runs. His spell included the wickets of Bowes, Santner, and Dane Cleaver.
Both teams will have all to play for in the third and final T20I which will be played on Sunday (August 20) at Dubai International Stadium.
